FAQ - Redelegation and Email Forwarding

   Questions? Here are some answers.

Using Your Own Unique Domain Name

In some instances, you may want to get a unique domain name just for the virtual tour site. For instance, instead of marketing the free web address we give you, you will want to market a property web address such as www.3454Marylee.com. If this is the case, you can register a domain name with Godaddy.com or DomainIt.com or any other registrar. If you want to use a domain name that you have registered, you will need to redelegate the domain name.

Redelegation is a fancy name for describing the process of making a domain name that you purchased with another company work with your new vobre.com agent web site or virtual tour. When you redelegate a domain name, you are telling your domain name registrar to point the domain name servers for the domain name to our domain name servers.

Our Domain Name Servers are:

Primary Nameserver dns.industryaccess.net

Secondary Nameserver dns2.industryaccess.net

More Detailed Instructions:

To complete the redelegation process, please follow the steps outlined below. You may have already completed items 1, 2 and 5 while completing the website wizard.

  1. Elect to use your existing domain name.
In the web site wizard in the section called Domain Name, you need to select the option that asks you whether you have a domain name already and would like to use it for your web site. You will then see an area where you need to type in the domain name.

  2. Complete the web site wizard.
We will automatically shoot you an email with these instructions the first time you complete the wizard and choose to use your own domain name. You will always be able to find these instructions in the FAQ for vobre.com and for the FAQ when you are inside the administration section of your login.

  3. Create a backup of existing web site content, if applicable.
If you already have a web site up and running that is associated with your domain name, it is likely that your current provider will not allow you to access it after the name server change has taken place. Therefore, we recommend that you save all web site content files to your own computer's hard drive. This content includes all your html pages and images. This will allow you to always reuse the content of your existing web site should you decide to make it active in the future.

  4. Save important email messages, if applicable.
If the company hosting your web site also provides you Internet based email (email accessible via the Internet versus email you read in software like Microsoft Outlook or Eudora), you should save any messages you may want to access later. Before initiating the name server change (as described in step 6, below), you should forward your email to an account not associated with your domain name to make sure that you do not lose any messages.

  5. Set-up email forwarding address.
If you want people to be able to send emails to an email address using your domain name, such as yourname@yourname.com, you will need give us forwarding email address information. Basically, after the name server changes go into effect, an email sent to yourname@yourname.com will be forwarded to the forwarding email address you give us.

Unless you have already set up your forwarding email account or know how to do it, you should contact your internet service provider for instructions. If you use Microsoft Outlook as your email software, you will need to know your forwarding email address, your POP Account and SMTP information. You will probably need to know your user name and password, and maybe some other settings. Your internet service provider will help you set up your configure Microsoft Outlook or other email software you use with this information.

  6. Contact your registrar and request a Name Server Modification.
Once you have completed the web site wizard and have indicated to us through the wizard your domain name you wish to use, we will enter your domain in our name servers to prepare to host your services. To move your domain vobre.com, you will need to contact your registrar to modify your name servers. For most registrars, you can make the change yourself online, or you can contact their customer service to make the change for you. Below is the information you will need:

I would like Industry Access Incorporated to host my domain name {my domain name}. Please make the following changes for {my domain name}:

    Primary Nameserver:

    dns.industryaccess.net

    Secondary Nameserver:

    dns2.industryaccess.net

  7. You must notify us that you wish to redelegate.
You need to send us an email or contact us and tell us what domain names you have pointed to our domain name servers.  Also, tell us whether the domains relate to your personal website or to the virtual tours.

  8. Check periodically to see whether your web site is working with your domain.
These changes usually take less than 24 hours to propogate; however, there have been instances when they take up to 48 hours, depending on the company currently hosting your domain name. Since this is out of our control, we suggest you check with your registrar to monitor progress, or simply check periodically to see whether your web site is working with your domain name. Simply, type in your domain name in your browser to see if your web site is showing up.

  9. In the meantime, you can use the free domain name we give you.
In the web site wizard, you have the ability to create an VOBRE domain name. It is http://yourname.industryaccess.com. You can use this domain name to see what your web site looks like so that you can make changes to it before the redelegation of your domain name goes into effect.  IndustryAccess.com is one of the domain names owned by Industry Access Incorporated, the name of this company.
